This was a difficult project with the creation of a new link block / reception building forming an interconnection between two existing buildings both of which required a certain amount of refurbishment. All work was undertaken whilst the remainder of the school remained fully operational. Works also included the upgrading & re-provision of the existing main Low Voltage incoming electricity supply from the transformer located some distance away at the site boundary.

The project was carried out as part of a Constructing West Midlands framework agreement, with Morgan Sindall taking the lead role as main building contractor. Coles Grant & Jones provided design input & delivered the turnkey Electrical, Mechanical & Public Health Services package (MEP) to the client within the allotted short contract period.

Close liaison with the schools staff was a necessity with this project to ensure that the schools busy schedule was not interrupted which included the activities conducted out of normal school time.

The new modern link building  has been seamlessly integrated into the existing building providing a new reception area & offices.

The existing buildings were generally unused to to their poor state of repair. These existing areas consisted mainly of teaching spaces & amenity areas. All areas have been refurbished to a high standard suitable for their original intended purpose.

Some of the existing  installations & equipment were retained & supplemented with new. elsewhere all installations & equipment were completely new. CGJ ensured that the completed project was fully compliant with all current standards & regulations regardless if the installation was new or retained.

Services provided briefly consisted of removal of existing installations, low voltage main & sub main distribution, internal & external lighting systems, small power, fire detection & alarm system, security systems (intruder alarm, CCTV, video entry system & access control), all containment infrastructures for future communications wiring, WC alarm call & refuge communication systems, lightning protection, new gas & water services, LTHW heating systems, hot & cold water services, sanitaryware & associated above ground drainage systems & automatic control systems.
