Finham Park School, Coventry

In Spring of 2021 we were approached to provide costs and feasibility advice for the construction of an additional teaching block at Finham Park School, a secondary comprehensive school of over 1,500 students, located in the south-west of Coventry. The school became an ‘Outstanding’ convertor to Academy status in August 2011, attracting students from across the city. Following submission of our cost advice, the works received funding in September.

The new block consists of a new dining hall with catering kitchen, further classroom space including two new, dedicated Music Classrooms, with facilities for individual group practice and recording, a Drama Space, Career Hub and a flexible 160m2 Examination Space at First Floor Level, which can be divided into 3 classrooms by the use of folding wall divisions.

Staff Offices and Workrooms are provided, with a Social Roof Terrace Space provided at first floor level over the dining hall, accessible from an external staircase.

All spaces utilise LED lighting, and will be heated by LPHW.

The building is generally ventilated by hybrid mechanical ventilation fan units, providing a mixture of natural and mechanical ventilation, with dedicated mechanical supply and extract ventilation to toilet and kitchen areas.

Staff and teaching spaces will be fitted with data and small power outlets as required, with domestic water services to all sanitary and catering appliances.

In modern school environments, site security is of paramount importance. The site is protected at all gates with video entry and intercoms linked to the main reception desk, with CCTV protecting internal and external areas.

The project was completed in Autumn 2022.
